You may have read how one global coffee trader’s GIS team fixes farm boundaries before they reach TRACT. On 20 October, we showed how your team can do the same.
In a live session, Luis Carrasco Tornero, our Senior Geospatial and Sustainability Data Scientist, took real farm boundary data and cleaned it up in QGIS using the TRACT Geolocation Formatter plugin. If you missed it, here’s what’s in the recording, what GIS teams asked, and how to start on your own files.
“This is a tool for getting polygons into TRACT, but it can also be a nice tool for cleaning your files for other systems, including the EU Information System.”
Luis Carrasco Tornero, Senior Geospatial and Sustainability Data Scientist, TRACT
What GIS teams asked
Does it work with KML files?
Yes. It works with any polygon file QGIS can open, including shapefiles, KML, GeoPackage, and GeoJSON.
Can I upload the output straight to TRACT?
Only if the validation report is clean. If it shows errors, fix them or run the plugin again first. In very rare cases, like unusual geometry loops, the plugin’s checks and TRACT’s can still differ.
I can’t find the plugin. Why?
It’s still marked as experimental, so QGIS hides it by default. Turn on experimental plugins in the plugin manager’s Settings tab, then search again.
Get started on your own files
Open QGIS (version 3.38 or later).
Go to Plugins > Manage and Install Plugins.
Search for TRACT Geolocation Formatter. If it doesn’t appear, turn on experimental plugins in the Settings tab.
Install it, then click the TRACT icon in the toolbar to open it.
